SBI Symposium Collection: Crack the Case: Breast MRI & CEM

Contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are contrast-enhanced advanced breast imaging modalities that many radiologists find challenging to interpret. Indeed, surveyed attendees of the 2023 SBI Symposium request breast MRI and CEM as the top two breast imaging modalities for continuing education.  This highlights the need for additional educational activities to review the application and diagnostic challenges in the detection and characterization of breast malignancies at CEM and breast MRI. This collection features presentations from the 2023 SBI Symposium.

SBI Symposium Collection: Breast Imaging Procedures: Advances & Updates

There have been several recent advancements in imaging-guided breast procedures, including the use of cryoablation in the treatment of breast diseases and the development of novel non-wire localization devices. Many radiologists performing imaging-guided breast procedures may not be familiar with these emerging techniques and devices. In addition, challenging breast biopsy and concordance scenarios are commonly encountered in practice. Therefore, there is an educational need to review the indications and application of emerging advanced breast imaging procedures and devices in addition to techniques on navigating challenging breast biopsy and concordance scenarios. This collection features presentations from the 2023 SBI Symposium.

False positive and false negative findings contribute to limited sensitivity and specificity of breast imaging exams. Inappropriate characterization and usage of the BI-RADS assessment categories can contribute to inappropriate biopsies or missed breast cancers. Indeed, a recent study found the BI-RADS category 3 malignancy rate to be greater than the accepted limit of 2% for digital mammography. This activity aims to help radiologists gain clinical knowledge necessary to minimize false positive and false negative reads and increase diagnostic accuracy when interpreting mammograms, ultrasound, and MRI. This collection features presentations from the 2023 SBI Symposium.
