Course Objectives
  • Develop a consistent, thorough approach to breast MR image analysis and MR-direct US correlation.
  • Understand management of enhancing and non-enhancing lesions on CEM and discuss ways to overcome challenges in identifying sonographic and MR correlates to findings detected on CEM.
  • Recognize the current clinical indications, differences in imaging protocols, challenges and advantages/disadvantages of CEM and breast MRI.
Challenging Cases: CEM

Session Description: In this session we will interactively review cases to demonstrate areas and situations that present a challenge to radiologists in the interpretation and biopsy of enhancing an non-enhancing findings seen on contrast enhanced mammography, as well as the roll of CEM in therapy management. The presentation slides for this session are not available for attendees to download until after the session has concluded.

Learning Objectives:

  • Manage enhancing and non-enhancing lesions on CEM and to judge the appearance of background parenchymal enhancement on CEM and implications for interpretation.
  • Overcome challenges in identifying sonographic and MR correlates to findings detected on CEM.
  • Manage, biopsy or localize initially enhancing findings before operation and after neoadjuvant therapy.

Image Optimization on CEM and MRI: Case-based Review

Session Description: This case-based session will explain the current indications of CEM and breast MRI. The differences in modalities and acquisition techniques will be summarized and imaging protocols in clinical breast imaging will be explained.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the current clinical indications of CEM and breast MRI.
  • Understand the differences in imaging protocols of CEM and breast MRI.
  • Identify the advantages, disadvantages potential and challenges of CEM and breast MRI.
Speaker Information
Jordana Phillips, MD, FSBI
Katja Pinker, MD, FSBI
MRI Interpretation: A Case-based Review

Session Description: Using illustrative case-based examples, we will outline a consistent approach to breast MR image review including assessment of technique, imaging findings, and follow up recommendations. We will review strategies to optimize MR-directed ultrasound correlation. Finally, we will discuss forthcoming breast MR updates in the BI-RADS 6th edition.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a consistent, thorough approach to breast MR image analysis.
  • Implement an approach for MR-directed US correlation.
  • Discuss breast MRI BI-RADS descriptors, including upcoming 6th edition updates.
