Course Objectives
  • Describe the appropriate evidence-based imaging algorithm for patients presenting with common and uncommon breast signs and symptoms
  • Discover tips and pearls for positioning challenging patients for successful diagnostic mammography examinations and mammography-guided procedures
  • Develop strategies to apply a skillful approach to radiologic-pathologic correlation in breast imaging
What a Pain: Managing Common and Uncommon Clinical Scenarios

Session Description: This session will focus on the evidence-based imaging management of various breast signs and symptoms. We will provide a case-based review of common and uncommon clinical scenarios, including palpable lumps, pain, skin changes, and nipple discharge. Additional topics covered will include troubleshooting of challenging cases and strategies for avoiding pitfalls.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the appropriate evidence-based imaging algorithm for patients presenting with common and uncommon breast signs and symptoms.
  • Explain how the imaging management is tailored to unique patient characteristics, such as age, pregnancy and lactational status, and scenarios of trauma or infection.
  • Recognize challenges and pitfalls, and formulate potential solutions.
Speaker Information
Amie Lee, MD, FSBI
Colleen Neal, MD, FSBI
Challenging Cases: US

Session Description: This session will present ultrasound cases with a focus on management strategies for challenging cases. The presentation slides for this session are not available for attendees to download until after the session has concluded.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss management of challenging ultrasound cases, including outside cases in which the lesion cannot be re-identified.
  • Highlight importance of imaging and pathology correlation, including ensuring the biopsied or localized ultrasound lesion correlates with other breast imaging, such as mammography, DBT, MRI, CEM.
  • Discuss the role of ultrasound imaging in young, pregnant/lactating, and male patients.

Setting a Threshold - Radiological-Pathological Correlation: Is that Pathology Concordant?

Session Description: This session will use an interactive case-based format presented by an international group of breast experts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize cases to avoid a delayed diagnosis of breast cancer.
  • Develop strategies to apply a skillful approach to radiologic-pathologic correlation in breast imaging.
  • Discuss optimal management based on imaging findings and concordance assessment.
Speaker Information
Marie-Christine Guilbert, MD

Working With Your Techs: Mammography Positioning Tips You Really Need

Session Description: This session will help attendees understand how Radiologists and Technologists can work together to image challenging patient populations and lesions that are difficult to image by optimizing positioning techniques and options. Fundamentals of correlation with a finding detected on prior mammograms or in the area(s) of clinical concern in symptomatic patients will be discussed as these skills are often missed by radiologists and technologists.

Learning Objectives:

  • Optimize mammography positioning techniques in order to successfully image challenging patients and lesions that are difficult to image.
  • Understand the importance of correlating findings detected on prior images or findings in the area(s) of clinical concern in symptomatic patients.
  • Discover tips and pearls for positioning challenging patients and lesions to result in successful mammography-guided procedures.
