SBI Symposium Collection: Breast Imaging Procedures: Advances & Updates

SBI Symposium Collection: Breast Imaging Procedures: Advances & Updates

There have been several recent advancements in imaging-guided breast procedures, including the use of cryoablation in the treatment of breast diseases and the development of novel non-wire localization devices. Many radiologists performing imaging-guided breast procedures may not be familiar with these emerging techniques and devices. In addition, challenging breast biopsy and concordance scenarios are commonly encountered in practice. Therefore, there is an educational need to review the indications and application of emerging advanced breast imaging procedures and devices in addition to techniques on navigating challenging breast biopsy and concordance scenarios. This collection features presentations from the 2023 SBI Symposium.

Course Objectives
  • Recognize the indications for cryoablation in the treatment of invasive carcinoma
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of each non-wire localization device
  • List the requirements for setting up a cryoablation program
  • Describe the imaging findings and follow up algorithm of patients undergoing cryoablation
  • Learn about the various commercially available non-wire localization devices
  • Review radiology-pathology correlation and management for challenging image-guided breast biopsies
Guiding Right: An Update on Localization Techniques

Session Description: This session will focus on current and evolving techniques of non-palpable breast lesion localization & their application to clinical care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the concept of non-palpable breast lesion localization.
  2. Recognize the distinguishing features of the different types of localization systems.
  3. Describe the advantages & disadvantages of each system.

Crack the Case: Challenging Biopsy and Concordance Scenarios

Session Description: Scrupulous radiologic-pathologic correlation after image-guided breast biopsy is critical to avoid a delay in breast cancer diagnosis. This session will be a case-based, image rich review of challenging radiology-pathology concordance cases under mammography, ultrasound, and breast MRI. Participants will review multi-modality imaging findings and consider management options after breast biopsy diagnoses.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, attendees will understand the importance of scrupulous radiology-pathology correlation when evaluating breast biopsy pathology results.
  2. Upon completion, attendees will be able to navigate complex radiology-pathology concordance cases on mammography, ultrasound, and breast MRI.
  3. Upon completion, attendees will be able to provide management options for benign, high-risk, and malignant breast pathologies in a variety of patient populations.

Ablation: The Time Is Now, But How to Start

Session Description: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of breast cryoablation, including a review of the literature, overview of current clinical trials, demonstration of procedural technique, and case-based multi-modality imaging follow-up. Further discussion will focus on how to implement breast cryoablation in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify ideal candidates for breast cancer cryoablation.
  2. Differentiate between expected post-ablation change and suspicious findings during multi-modality imaging follow-up.
  3. Describe the steps involved in starting breast cryoablation in clinical practice.
