Course Objectives
  • Understand the most appropriate BI-RADS assessment category and management recommendations for a variety of mammography case scenarios.
  • Review the most appropriate BI-RADS assessment category and management recommendations for a variety of ultrasound case scenarios.
  • Identify discordant biopsy results and recommend appropriate next steps in patient management.
BI-RADS Mammography

Session Description: During this session, we will discuss updates to the Mammography section of the BI-RADS 6th edition.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe changes to the latest BI-RADS edition for mammography
  • Understand changes in assessment / management through case review.
Speaker Information
Steven Poplack MD, FSBI
BI-RADS Ultrasound

Session Description:This session will provide updates from the ultrasound section of the upcoming BI-RADS Atlas, 6th Edition.

Learning Objectives:

  • List lexicon changes in the ultrasound section of the BI-RADS Atlas, 6th edition.
  • Discuss the evidence and reasoning that support anticipated changes in the ultrasound section of the BI-RADS Atlas, 6th edition
Speaker Information
Vilert Loving MD, FSBI
Case-Based Challenges: Architectural Distortion and Asymmetries

Session Description:Architectural distortions and asymmetries are challenging mammographic findings, both in perception and in management. This session will review both entities in depth and demonstrate features and management by presenting the attendee with challenging cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define architectural distortion (as a primary or associated finding) and the various types of asymmetries on mammography
  • Recognize and localize architectural distortions and asymmetries on mammography, particularly digital breast tomosynthesis
  • Review multiple challenging cases to review management options
Speaker Information
Liane Philpotts MD, FSBI
Geogia Spear MD
Case Based Challenges: Calcifications

Session Descriptions: This case-based review examines calcifications detected on screening synthetic mammography (SM), focusing on when to recall versus pass findings on SM/DBT. The lecture will review SM/DBT acquisition, the causes and differentiation of pseudocalcifications, and challenges in detecting and evaluating calcifications compared to digital mammography. The lecture will provide practical tips, key insights, and pitfalls, supported by image-rich examples and relevant published data.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participant will be able to understand an overview of synthetic mammography (SM), including its development rationale, image acquisition process, and current literature on screening performance metrics and clinical usage with a focus on calcifications.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to analyze calcifications detected on screening mammography with SM/DBT through a case-based image rich review.
  • Upon completion, participant will be able to understand potential challenges of calcifications on SM, including artifacts like 'pseudo-calcifications,' skin edge blurring, and metallic foreign body artifacts.
