BI-RADS MRI

Session Description: During this session, updates to the MRI section of the next BI-RADS edition will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe anticipated changes in the Breast MRI section of the 6th edition of BI-RADS.
  • Apply updated terminology based on forthcoming changes to the next edition of BI-RADS MRI.
  • Select the most appropriate BI-RADS assessment category and management recommendations for a variety of MRI case scenarios.

Speaker Information
Lilian C. Wang MD
Advanced MRI Protocols You Can Use

Session Description: This case-based session will explain the current indications of abbreviated and fast MRI. The differences in acquisition
techniques will be summarized and imaging protocols in clinical breast imaging will be explained.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the differences in imaging protocols of fast and abbreviated breast MRI.
  • Recognize the current clinical indications of fast and abbreviated breast MRI.
  • Identify the advantages, disadvantages, potential and challenges of fast and abbreviated breast MRI.

Case Based Challenges: MRI Screening and Extent of Disease

Session Description:

This session will be a cased based review aimed at helping attendees develop a consistent approach to interpreting MRI in two common scenarios:
1) Screening breast MRI
2) Interpretation of diagnostic breast MRI performed for extent of disease (EOD).

These sessions will incorporate upcoming changes in BI-RADS and will emphasize:
1) Distinguishing BPE from NME
2) Management of Foci
3) Utilization of BI-RADS 3: Probably benign
4) Appropriate use of BI-RADS 0,4,6 in the diagnostic setting

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe a uniform approach to differentiation of benign parenchymal enhancement from abnormal non-mass enhancement in the screening setting and strategies to maintain cancer detection rate while reducing false positives.
  • Differentiate the use of BI-RADS assessment category 6 versus 4 when more extensive findings are identified on breast MRI performed for extent of disease, and appropriate description and management recommendations for lymph nodes in the setting of known malignancy.
  • Understand how updates to the MRI section of the BI-RADS 6th edition will impact breast MRI interpretation in the screening and extent of disease settings.

CEM Implementation and Interpretation

Session Description:

Contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) is an FDA approved technique that is emerging as an alternative vascular based technique to conventional breast imaging and MRI in both the screening and diagnostic setting. This session will review considerations in starting a CEM program, review data supporting the use of CEM in both the screening and diagnostic settings, and highlight key points in interpreting CEM studies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate the techniques for performing contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) and identify key considerations for implementing a CEM program.
  • Analyze the emerging roles of CEM in both screening and diagnostic settings, incorporating recent evidence and clinical applications.
  • Interpret CEM studies with an emphasis on technical and pathological considerations to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Practical and Pro Tips for Incorporating AI into your Practice

Session Description: This session will review practical considerations on why, how and when to implement AI into your breast clinical practice. It will include how to select the right approach for your practice, what IT integration information will make your process easier and what to expect once AI is implemented. It will focus primarily on mammography AI, but will briefly discuss AI for breast ultrasound and MRI.

Learning Objectives:

  • What to know prior to implementing breast AI into your practice
  • How to integrate AI into your breast clinical practice
  • What AI can and cannot do once implmemented into your breast clinical practice
