Course Objectives
  • Recognize the enhancement patterns at breast MRI that are suspicious and require biopsy, compared to patterns that are related to artifacts, and will not persist once trouble shooting for technical issues are performed.
  • Recognize the role of features identified on breast MRI as imaging biomarkers in the setting of monitoring response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and allow for early identification of response or non-response to therapy, often before response may be assessed clinically by referring physicians.
  • Discuss the concept of abbreviated breast MRI exam and the steps to implement this technique.
MRI of the Neoadjuvant Patient: Case-based Review of Staging and Response

This session will review the use of MRI in the setting of neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. Session will be a combination of didactic teaching material and case illustrations. Emerging imaging techniques will also be introduced.

Learning Objectives:

Describe a patient benefit of neoadjuvant chemotherapy

List applications of breast MRI for initial staging of a breast cancer patient

Recognize potential utility of breast MRI as an imaging biomarker in the setting of neoadjuvant chemotherapy monitoring

Abbreviated Breast MRI - The Data and Implementation

This session will review the reasons why our institution implemented abbreviated breast MRI as a supplemental screening test in women with dense breast tissue. The clinical implementation process and the data supporting abbreviated breast MRI will also be presented.

Learning Objectives:

Review the data supporting the use of abbreviated breast MRI

Discuss the implementation process

Discuss the abbreviated breast MRI technique

Speaker Information
Elizabeth McDonald, MD, FSBI
Susan Weinstein, MD, FSBI
Optimizing Your Breast MR Program - From Image to Interpretation to Acting on the Results

This session will focus on practical aspects of running a breast MRI program with an emphasis on image quality and optimization, approach to interpretation and follow up.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize water saturation at breast MRI.

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe a troubleshooting strategy when encountering water saturation at breast MRI.

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe an enhancement pattern at breast MRI that requires biopsy
