SBI Early Career Webinar Series

SBI Early Career Webinar Series

Studies have demonstrated that early career radiologists are most prone to the symptoms of burnout. This subset of radiologists faces unique challenges as they embark on their careers. We strive to provide a program that will strengthen the foundation for a successful career in breast imaging.

Through this webinar series, we provide early career breast imagers with better preparation and tools to effectively navigate the early career years and increase engagement in SBI—all of which are known to mitigate the burnout that is currently plaguing our physician workforce. Radiologists should also have increased understanding of non-medical curriculum such as financial literacy and legal literacy as it pertains to breast imagers.

This webinar series is a collection of three previously presented live webinars targeted to SBI’s early career radiologist members.

       1. MQSA 101 and Breast Center Roles: Sona Chikarmane, MD, FSBI

Description: In residency and fellowship, we learn the fundamentals of breast cancer detection, the importance of performing safe and accurate breast interventions, and how to differentiate benign and malignant breast disease. However, formal teaching on the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), screening and diagnostic performance metrics, and the importance of a medical audit is not often discussed. Maintaining and passing audits are critical to the maintenance of a Breast Imaging Facility accreditation. You may be your breast facility’s next lead interpreting physician! What should you know? Join us for this webinar on “MQSA 101 and Breast Center Roles” to find out. We will review the basics of MQSA, review screening performance metrics including optimal screening callback rates and positive predictive values, and potential updates to the new BI-RADS manual.

       2. Payment Models and Introduction to Financial Literacy: Geraldine B. McGinty, MD

Description: How does the work that we do as breast imagers translate into payment? This webinar will provide an overview of healthcare payment policy and the payer landscape. We'll discuss specific examples related to breast imaging as well as current payment challenges and initiatives.

       3. Introduction to Legal Literacy: Michael N. Linver, MD, FSBI

Description: Radiologists are becoming more frequent targets in medical malpractice suits. For this reason, a discussion of the legal standards to which radiologists are held will be presented, along with ways to decrease their medicolegal exposure in today’s changing medical climate. Multiple actual case studies will be included in the presentation.
