SBI Webinar: Imaging Algorithms & Pathologies of the Breast During Pregnancy & Lactation
Screening for breast cancer and/or the management of breast symptoms and signs in patients who are pregnant, or lactating remain a challenge for radiologists and referring providers in routine practice. A delay in imaging of symptomatic patients can result in delayed cancer diagnosis while inappropriate imaging can lead to unnecessary imaging or biopsies. In addition, the current delay in age of pregnancy for many patients overlap with time of onset of many national screening recommendations, which results in confusion regarding screening options. This webinar will cover the most common benign and malignant pathologies encountered in patients who are pregnant or lactating and will address the most appropriate management recommendations based on the American College of Radiology (ACR) published Appropriateness Criteria for imaging the breast in pregnant or lactating women. The webinar will also address some of the clinical nuances for screening for breast cancer in this patient population, while highlighting the different risks and benefits of the various breast imaging tools.
