SBI Symposium Collection: Abbreviated MR

SBI Symposium Collection: Abbreviated MR

The Abbreviated MR collection is designed to enhance a learner’s competence related to the utility of abbreviated breast MR, how to implement such a program, and the importance of performance metrics will help radiologists offer this exam to patients, improving breast cancer screening. This program provides learners a convenient option to improve competence in Abbreviated MR.

Breast MRI (Standard and Abbreviated) - Challenging Cases

Session Description: In this session, attendees will expand their knowledge of breast MRI in both the screening and diagnostic settings. Cases will highlight challenges and pitfalls in the interpretation of breast MRI using both the full and abbreviated MR protocols.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review imaging features useful in distinguishing benign from malignant pathologies on breast MRI.
  2. Describe the differences between full and abbreviated breast MR interpretation.
  3. Apply diffusion-weighted imaging to improve the specificity of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI findings.
Speaker Information
Basak Dogan MD, FSBI
Janice Sung MD, FSBI
Nuts and Bolts: AB-MR Implementing and Interpretation

Session Description: In this session, we will review the rationale for performing AB-MR and the steps to implementing AB-MR. The session will also include practical tips in interpreting AB-MR. **Note: Slides in Abbreviated Breast MR: Interpretation briefly appear out-of-sync with the voiceover audio. We apologize for any confusion.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the rationale for performing AB-MR.
  2. Review the implementation process for AB-MR.
  3. Discuss practical tips in interpreting AB-MR.
Speaker Information
Donna Plecha MD, FSBI
Susan Weinstein MD, FSBI
Case-based Review of AB-MR

Session Description: This session will provide teaching pearls to implement a successful abbreviated breast MRI program for high-risk screening. Cases will be used to highlight ways to avoid benign breast biopsies, optimize protocols for excellent accuracy of breast MRI reading, and confidently diagnose breast cancers using available MRI tools.

Learning Objectives:

  1. List the technical aspects that can optimize the quality of abbreviated MRI.
  2. Audit the practice for the benchmarks of a good quality screening MRI program.
  3. Identify typically benign and malignant breast lesions using abbreviated breast MRI.
Speaker Information
Christopher Comstock MD, FSBI
Jean Seely MD, FSBI
Supplemental Screening - Should I and How Do I Start CESM and FAST MRI?

Session Description: It is well-accepted that due to limitations in mammographic sensitivity, supplemental imaging is of value in women with increased risk for breast cancer including those with dense breasts. Over the years, investigators have evaluated different methods of supplemental imaging and compared their value in different high-risk settings. This session will discuss the use of contrast enhanced mammography (CEDM) as a supplemental tool for breast cancer screening in women at increased risk: how to do CEDM and what its accuracy is compared to other modalities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Start a CEDM program.
  2. Improve screening in women at increased risk for breast cancer.
